About #WECAN

Led by Leeds Beckett University and working in partnership with Edge Hill University and Social Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber, #WECAN aims to enhance the resilience and growth of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by building the leadership skills, capabilities, and opportunities of women in the Leeds City Region.

The £1.7 million project, part funded by the European Social Fund with support from the Department of Work and Pensions offers fully funded support and training to businesses and their women employees to help them progress into, and within leadership roles.

The programme is open to women working in small and medium sized businesses in the wider Leeds City Region and has so far to date, supported over 600 women employees and over 250 businesses across the region.

The programme offers fully funded leadership and management support & training in the form of:

  • An initial diagnostic to help businesses and women identify their existing skills, strengths, and barriers
  • Fully funded leadership and management qualifications (ILM accredited)
  • Development workshops led by industry experts and academics
  • Networking opportunities and events
  • Access to surveys, research, and blogs

Research is being conducted by academics at Leeds Beckett University and Edge Hill University throughout the project to contribute to a lasting legacy which will provide organisations with the foundations to operate with gender blind practices and policies.
