Spotlight On: Laser Additive Solutions

“Laser Additive Solutions set sights on the Space industry with new machinery.”

Laser Additive Solutions Ltd (LAS) are a company based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, who specialise in laser joining processes and additive manufacturing, including laser cladding, laser hardening and a process called EHLA – Extreme High Speed Laser Application. Recently, they installed a Trumpf TruPrint 3000 Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) AM machine, the first of its kind in the UK.

This new machinery allows LAS to set their sights on new and diverse sectors and showcase their capabilities to potential customers around the world. One of these new sectors is Space, where the 3D printer technology has a variety of uses that can be transferred for different applications, such as where lightweight structures are required to be cost effective and manufactured efficiently.

Space Hub Yorkshire (SHY) were invited to the launch of the new printer, after holding their first Space Summit in Leeds in collaboration with Flanders Investment and Trade in October 2023. It was at that event that SHY and LAS started to discuss the opportunities within the Space sector and explore how traditional manufacturing companies can start to get involved. By beginning to look at different sectors and diversifying, LAS have opened themselves to a whole new market opportunity of potential customers both within the Yorkshire region and internationally.

The knowledge and experience of the team, led by Peter Brown, have resulted in the business being awarded with ISO 9001:2015 accreditation, further bolstering their capabilities and services on offer. The future provides a wealth of opportunity in multiple sectors, and Space Hub Yorkshire look forward to supporting Laser Additive Solutions on their journey into the Space sector for many years to come.
