As the UK space economy grows, where will its future workforce come from?

The UK’s space sector needs far more than astronauts and scientists. Its success depends on engineers, technicians, manufacturers, digital and data specialists, cyber professionals, construction, infrastructure and logistics providers.

The future space industry workforce will not be built by colleges or employers acting in isolation, it will be built through collaboration with industry. If the UK is to deliver its ambitions for growth in the space sector, education providers and industry must work together to shape the skills pipeline that will power the sector’s future success.

Hull College and Space Hub Yorkshire are delighted to invite you to join us on 8 October for The Workforce Beneath the Satellites.

The timing could not be more relevant. The Government’s recently published UK Space Strategy sets out ambitious plans for the sector, backed by £7.8 billion of investment through to 2030. Delivering those ambitions will require a workforce with the skills, knowledge and technical capabilities to support growth across the space economy and Further Education has a critical role to play.

Colleges need industry input to ensure that training provision reflects real-world demand. Hearing directly from businesses across the space sector is essential to understanding the skills, competencies and experience that employers will need in the years ahead. Those insights can help shape curriculum development, inform future training provision and ensure learners are equipped for the opportunities emerging across the space economy.

This event will bring together leaders from Further Education, the space sector, industry and government to explore what this means in practice. We are particularly keen to hear from employers about the challenges they face in recruiting talent, the skills gaps they identify, and the opportunities for closer collaboration between industry and education.
