SUMMARY:AGI Earth Observation Network Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Association for Geographic Information\, the membership group for organisations and individuals working in geospatial\, has announced a new special interest network designed to broker a better connection between the Earth Observation and Geospatial sectors. Previewed at GEO Business in London\, the AGI’s EO Network will bring together members and industry in a bid to raise awareness and education\, and foster new relationships between those involved in the capture\, processing\, and use of Earth Observation data. It is expected that the new Network will be one of many initiatives from the AGI to strengthen the geospatial community and its relationships. \nThe AGI Earth Observation Network will be officially launched at an event on the 2nd October 2024 in London. Hosted by Geovation\, an Ordnance Survey Initiative\, which has together\, with HM Land Registry\, already kickstarted the business of over 150 geospatial and property startups raising a total of £130m in funding to date\, and creating 2\,500 jobs for the UK economy. Invitations will be extended in September so interested parties should register their interest by emailing info@agi.org.uk. \nUK-EONS will be presenting at the event and we are excited to be connected with the geospatial community! DESCRIPTION:This next event in the UK CGFI Leeds Connect series\, brings together banks\, insurers\, building societies\, leading climate and nature scientists\, and analytics businesses to explore the future of scenario analysis for climate and environmental risks. \nThe CGFI Leeds Innovation Hub is hosting What comes next after CBES\, and what role for integrated climate-nature risk analysis? on 8th October 2024\, together with the Integrating Finance and Biodiversity Programme (IFB) and the Resilient Planet Finance Lab. \nRegistration 12:45 pm | Sessions 13:15 pm | Networking Reception 5:00 – 6:30 pm \nJoin this event to understand the climate and environmental risks that financial institutions face and how science could be better integrated into risk management\, as well as to network and collaborate. The event builds upon CGFI’s research on lessons from the Bank of England’s Climate Biennial Exploratory Scenario exercise and on climate scenario analysis\, as well as the IFB’s report on the materiality of UK nature-related financial risks. \nThe event will include: \n\nKeynote speakers and panellists from across academia and industry sharing their insights on the climate and nature-related risks facing financial institutions\, and experience of how climate and nature risks are being integrated into decision-making.\nAn update of the current state of the climate and the latest thinking within the climate science community on informing physical risks. A climate expert from the Bank of England will reflect on the learnings from the CBES exercise\, the use of climate scenario analysis in the financial sector today\, and the journey to more decision useful scenario analysis in the future.\n\n\nCGFI colleagues will share takeaways from research on the CBES exercise\, with insights for banks and building societies who did not take part in the exercise. He actively advances space elevator concepts and contributes to the National Space Society\, particularly with the International Space Development Conference and SpacEdge Academy. Dr Swan is an Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics\, where he has chaired Commission 6 and edited key studies on space elevators and space resources. A fellow of the British Interplanetary Society and AIAA\, he graduated from the US Military Academy and served 20 years in the Air Force\, specializing in space R&D. He has also led spacecraft development for Motorola’s Iridium satellite program and co-founded a company teaching space systems engineering. He teaches at Arizona State University and holds a Ph.D. in Space Systems Engineering from UCLA. \nDr. Alistair John – Programme Lead in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield\, where he leads the Aerospace Engineering program. He holds an MEng and PhD from the same institution\, collaborating extensively with Rolls-Royce. His research focuses on improving jet and rocket engine performance\, efficiency\, and environmental impact. He founded Race2Space\, an initiative for students to build and test rocket engines. His expertise includes aerodynamic design\, propulsion\, and heat transfer\, and he is actively involved in several high-profile grants and aerospace research projects. \nAdrian Nixon – Founding director of Nixene Publishing Ltd and Editor of the Nixene Journal. He serves on the board of the International Space Elevator Consortium (ISEC) and is an advisory council member for Stellar Modal\, a space transportation association. A Chartered Chemist and member of the Royal Society of Chemistry\, Adrian has over 20 years of industry experience\, including roles in technical service\, R&D (where he created several patents)\, and global market management. DESCRIPTION:The UK Space Delegation to Orlando Space Commercial Week 2026 brings together a cohort of UK space companies\, universities and sector representatives to engage with key stakeholders across Florida’s space ecosystem. The programme spans engagements in Orlando and the Space Coast\, including visits to the University of Central Florida\, Space Florida\, Kennedy Space Center and participation in SpaceCom at the Orange County Convention Center. Activities include academic roundtables\, company showcase sessions\, site visits and structured B2B meetings designed to facilitate commercial partnerships and knowledge exchange.
